TENS Unit Rental

$75
TENS Unit Rental Period of up to 5 Weeks, starting at your 37th week of pregnancy

($100 refundable security deposit due at time of rental, to be refunded with safe return of ALL equipment and manuals)

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation. The TENS sends electrical pulses to the stimulating pads that are placed on the mother's back.  The sensation can be described as pleasant buzzing or tingling.  The Obi TENS is designed for use in labor and offers a boost button to give additional support during contractions.

Using the Gate Control Theory of Pain, the TENS unit can help block how pain signals are transmitted to the brain. The TENS also stimulates the body to produce extra endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers.

While the TENS machine doesn’t completely take the pain away, it does help alleviate it. It allows the laboring woman to feel a sense of control, as she can monitor the pulses herself. This method is completely drug free.  There is no effect on external fetal monitoring or breastfeeding, and there are no after-effects on the baby or mother. While using the TENS machine, the woman maintains her mobility; she can walk and change positions at will.

The TENS unit is an electrical machine and therefore can
NOT be used in water. The TENS must be removed prior to entering the shower or bath during labor.
