Testimonials From Kimberly's Clients
I had the honor of being Kim's first client, not that you would know it by her compassionate, prepared and well informed nature. She'll support any decision you make about your birth, be it all natural or planned intervention. I had to be induced for medical reasons and it progressed into an unplanned cesarean. She kept me at ease despite the pain and worry I had. She also helped me stave off pain medication and epidural til well after my water broke during rapid pitocin contractions. She helped my husband stay as involved as he wished to be all the while removing the pressure of me worrying about his stress levels and if he'd eaten. He was able to be the birth partner I needed thanks to her direction. She made my labor seem easy to me. Rice socks, massage tools, partner instruction, labor ball, relaxation scripts and a wide range of labor positions both solo and partner supported are just a few tools in her bag. This was my first child. Being well supported by her and my husband makes me certain that he won't be the last we try for. No matter your birth style, she'd be a great fit for you.

I found Kim while I was seeking support for my second delivery. My first delivery was a scheduled C-section where everything went well, but me. I had a hard time emotionally and was traumatized. The second time around I knew I needed extra support. I was seven months pregnant when I met Kim, at that time I was very confused, I didn't want another C-section but I was also afraid of a VBAC. Kim was very patient in listening all of my fears, she encouraged me to talk about it. Kim is a very sweet person, the kind of person you want around in a delivery. She was ready to help me no matter what kind of delivery I chose to have. She helped me to prepare for a vaginal delivery and also for a C-section. My due date came and off I went to my scheduled C-section. Kim was at the hospital when I got there. Luckily the doctors let my husband and Kim inside of the OR; she was next to me during the procedure, keeping me positive, and worried about my well being. Everything went so fast, and everything went so well. I am so glad I met Kim; talking to her, pinpointing my troubles from previous C-section, and finding a way out of my panic helped me to have a wonderful experience this time around. I am very thankful to her and I highly recommend her services as a doula.

We are so lucky to have had Kim Lawton as our doula for our home birth; I do not know how we would have made it without her! Throughout the pregnancy, we periodically met with Kim not just to learn from her what she could do as our doula, but also so that she could learn from us what we needed her to do. And from the beginning Kim was so eager to help.
Eventually, at 3am on the day of my daughter's birth, waking up in pain and finding her labor progressing very quickly, my wife begged me to call Kim. Kim came and held things together while we waited for what seemed like an eternity for the midwives to get to our house. She managed my wife's pain and reassured us through the entire labor, even after the midwives finally arrived. I'll never forget Kim's calm poise and gentle demeanor as she massaged my wife's back, fed her ice chips, or just held her hand. In the end it was a beautiful birth that gave us a perfect little daughter, and Kim Lawton will always be a part of that. Thanks again, Kim.

Kimberly is wonderful. I had to be induced five days past my due date for my first baby due to size, he was 9 lb 5 oz at birth. Thanks to Kimberly, I was able to stick to my original birth plan and deliver the baby without use of an epidural or pain killers.
At circa 33 weeks I decided to look into getting a doula since I was having a big baby and wanted a natural birth. I later found out I had to be induced and still wanted to have as natural a birth experience as possible. Although I was open to getting an epidural or other pain killers, I wanted to set myself up well to have a good birth experience. After meeting Kimberly I had a good feeling she could help us out and we both felt at ease around her. During my 20 hour labor, Kimberly was gentle and confident, she was able to assess what I needed and provide it to me, or even better she enabled my husband to do it. After getting to know me she used the right combination of verbal affirmations, encouragement, and hands on physical comfort aids, based upon my unique desires, for my birth experience. She had something in her bag of tricks to address every part of labor both physically and emotionally. After birth she provided encouragement and assistance with breastfeeding and baby care. I am forever grateful to Kimberly for being an integral part of my first child's birth and I hope we stay in touch!

I had no idea how invaluable Kimberly would be to our labor and childbirth process when we first hired her. I wasn't even sure what a doula did but felt like it would be good to have another advocate for natural childbirth with us because I was delivering in a hospital setting where interventions were more common. She surpassed our expectations!
Kimberly met with us two or three times before the due date to discuss her role, our goals and to go over some natural laboring methods. Our baby ended up arriving right when she wanted to — 1 week and 5 days after her due date. Those nearly two weeks of waiting were the hardest part of our delivery, and Kimberly was available over the phone and responsive to my many text messages during that period. I really appreciated that!
The day of delivery, Kimberly came to the hospital (Fort Belvoir) right when we needed her. I ended up needing some help to get labor sustained (because I was so close to 42 weeks) and she supported us through the process of a foley bulb and a little pitocin. They backed off the pitocin after a few hours and I was able to continue with a natural childbirth. I had intense back labor, so Kimberly and my husband were indispensible as one of them applied pressure on my sacrum and I hugged or held the hand of the other through every contraction. Kimberly also kept communication open with the nurses about when they would back off the pitocin or whether I could try new positions, which allowed my husband to focus on me.
She also cheered me on through the final stages of labor, which included some intense triple-peak contractions after my water broke on its own. When I started to push with my husband on one side and a supportive nurse on the other, Kimberly picked up my camera and caught some of the greatest first moments for us! She also kept records of what happened when. I highly recommend her!
